ExxonMobil Shanghai Technology Center (STC) opened in 2011 to develop and deliver innovative solutions to customers throughout China and Asia Pacific. In April 2018, we completed the multi-million dollar expansion of STC. The expansion includes a new, state-of-the-art research and development facility to support customer growth through collaboration and innovation.<br>
On February 15, 2023, ExxonMobil broke ground on construction of a new technology center at the Dayawan Petrochemical Industrial Park. Dayawan Technology Center will focus on developing new high performance products and innovative processes to bring products to commercial scale.<br>

<li>You will be designated as a battery materials development engineer. This is expected to be a senior/mid-career technical position. You will be embedded in our lithium team, working as part of the technology group. Your task will be to support commercialization of our lithium products by applying your expertise in battery materials development including your experience in cathode making and testing. You will be expected to stay abreast of new battery chemistry developments, anticipate upcoming trends and translate them to steer our products towards new, value-added features. You will work in close collaborations with R&D and our Sales and Marketing teams, as well as externally with customers, battery companies, OEMs and academia</li>
<li>The position will be based out of Houston, TX. However, if you are currently located in China, your position will be based out of our Shanghai Technology Center. Moderate travel is expected</li>

<li>Conduct laboratory studies to evaluate performance of EM lithium products. This will involve tasks such as characterizing product through relevant analytical techniques, formulating cathode active materials, developing coin and pouch cells, and executing cell performance tests</li>
<li>Perform statistical data analysis for cathode & cell quality</li>
<li>Develop property-process-performance relationship models for different Lithium products with cell performance</li>
<li>Engage with customers at a technical level to understand the relationship between customer specifications and their CAM/Cell performance targets</li>
<li>Leverage cell and “Voice of Customer” data to determine direct and interaction effects of EM Lithium products under evaluation and execute root-cause analysis of failures and appropriate modifications to the Lithium product specifications. support qualification of EM products, and to enable commercialization of new EM products</li>
<li>Guide R&D towards developing new, improved products based on laboratory studies and external insights</li>
<li>Engage with external community in the field of battery materials science</li>
<li>Given that this is a new position, you will be responsible for identifying and as appropriate developing the necessary tools and capabilities for your role</li>
<li>Depending on your experience level, your work scope may extend to include a similar scope of product and application development for carbon materials in batteries</li>

<li>B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Electrochemistry or Chemical Engineering</li>
<li>+5 years working experience in the development and testing of cathode material such as LFP, LMFP, NCA, NMC etc, fabrication of coin and pouch cells, cell testing, and electrochemical data analysis</li>
<li>Good understanding and experience of cathode materials and of their electrochemical performance e.g. ac impedance, cycle life testing</li>
<li>Demonstrated expertise and success in design and development of components and assemblies for lithium-ion battery</li>
<li>Competency in the Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) process</li>
<li>Experience in design and development of batteries/cell (and ideally lithium-ion cells)</li>
<li>Familiarity with Statistical Analysis and Design of Experiments (e.g. Minitab) preferred</li>
<li>Working experience with Quality & Reliability disciplines (APQP, 8D, …)</li>
<li>Hands-on experience with developing technical specifications for components and assemblies</li>
<li>Has worked with moisture sensitive materials in a glovebox or dry room, and has cell teardown and failure analysis experience</li>
<li>Experience in working with battery researchers</li>
<li>Familiarity with lithium materials supply chain players</li>
</ul>
